This year's guest speakers are:
Dr. Georges C. Benjamin is the executive director of the American Public Health Association and former Maryland Secretary of Health. A leader in health policy, he is board-certified in internal medicine and a member of the National Academy of Medicine. Dr. Benjamin serves on numerous nonprofit boards, advancing public health and infrastructure security across the nation.
Camille Blake Fall is the Director of the Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities at the Maryland Department of Health. She brings to the role more than 20 years of government service leading programmatic, regulatory, and legislative advocacy efforts in health care and public policy and an unwavering commitment to improving communities, reducing health disparities, and driving transformational change.
Before joining MDH, Camille served as the Chief Administrative Officer for the Office of the State's Attorney's for Baltimore City (SAO) where she led the SAO's Policy & Legislative Affairs Division responsible for advancing all federal, state, and local legislative initiatives. Additionally, Camille oversaw the SAO's financial team, guiding the annual budget process, supervising grants management activities, and cultivating new revenue sources.
Prior to the SAO, Camille spent 17 years as an attorney at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the General Counsel (OGC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Division. In addition to providing legal, legislative, regulatory and communication services for several grant and public benefits programs, Camille served as lead legal counsel advising CMS' Division of Tribal Affairs and the CMS Tribal Technical Advisory Group on policies affecting American Indian and Alaskan Native communities to ensure access to culturally competent healthcare in Indian Country. Camille also functioned as lead attorney and subject matter expert on Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) implementation and the related obligations on Medicare-participating hospitals. As one of the department's chief EMTALA experts, Camille represented the agency at various healthcare conferences and trainings nationwide.
As the MHHD Director, Camille serves on several commissions, advisory boards, and workgroups, including the Maryland Commission on Health Equity, the Maryland Commission on Public Health, the Maryland Equitable Justice Collaborative, the Maryland Underrepresented Behavioral Health Professional Workgroup, and the Racial Disparities in Overdose Workgroup empaneled by the Maryland Overdose Response Advisory Council.
