Maryland Chlorpyrifos Ban Lobby Night

Posted on Feb 5, 2019

Help us ban Chlorpyrifos in Maryland! Will you join us on February 11th for a lobby night and training on the need to ban the toxic pesticide Chlorpyrifos? The Maryland Smart on Pesticides Coalition is organizing this event.

You may remember under the Obama administration, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) scientists urged a chlorpyrifos ban after finding that there were no safe tolerance levels for humans, and that chlorpyrifos damages the nervous system. The insecticide is also linked to cognitive and motor decline in children who are exposed through drinking water, and to memory decline in farm workers. In addition, chlorpyrifos is associated with dizziness, nausea, preterm births, and lowered IQ scores.

In his first act as administrator, after consulting with Dow Chemical’s top executive, former EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt reversed the position of EPA’s scientists, leaving in place the existing food tolerance levels for the pesticide. Dow produces chlorpyrifos.

That is why as health professionals and health advocates, we need to step up and side with public health, the environment, and scientific integrity.

Show your support for passing a statewide ban on chlorpyrifos to protect Maryland.

WHEN: Monday, February 11, 2019, 4:45 – 8:00 PM

WHERE: Asbury United Methodist Church, 87 West St, Annapolis, MD 21401

WHAT: Lobby Night and Training for chlorpyrifos ban bill – FOOD PROVIDED, including vegetarian and gluten-free options!
